Types of Addiction Treatment Programs

Central Kentucky Addiction Treatment offers patients treatment for many different types of addiction.

Alcohol Addiction

Alcohol is incredibly prevalent in society, so alcohol addiction can be hard to identify. Addiction to alcohol, or alcoholism, often is attributed to excessive drinking or binge drinking, which involves consuming 15 or more drinks per week for a man and 8 or more servings per week for a woman. One simple test to determine if your alcohol consumption is nearing addiction is the CAGE questionnaire.

     C. Have you tried to cut down in the past?

     A. Do you get annoyed when people talk to you about your drinking habits?

     G. Do you feel guilty about you drinking      habits?

     E. Do you feel the need for an eye-opener, or a drink right after you wake up?

If you or a loved one answer “yes” to any of the CAGE questions, it may be time to contact Dr. Alicia to discuss your alcohol consumption and habits.

Gambling Addiction

Like drugs and alcohol, gambling can trigger your brain’s reward system, making it incredibly easy to develop an addiction. Gambling addiction entails one’s willingness to risk something of value in the hope of something greater, but that can ultimately lead to a destructive cycle of losses including more betting and mounting debt. While an addiction to gambling is a serious condition with serious consequences, it is not too late to reach out for help.

Sex Addiction

Sex addiction, sometimes referred to as hypersexuality or compulsive sexual behavior, is when an individual has sexual fantasies, urges, or behaviors that become difficult to control and cause distress and other negativity. Sex addiction can negatively affect your health, your life, your self-esteem, and your relationships if untreated. However, our team at Central Kentucky Addiction Treatment can help you battle and overcome sex addiction and move forward with your health and your life.

Video Game and Technology Addiction

With countless forms of technology at our fingertips, video game and technology addiction are more prevalent than ever in our society. Excessive use of technology and video game addiction is a unique type of addiction as they are part of something called Process Addiction Disorders. These addictions involve a compulsion to engage in non-substance related behavior that provides a reward. Individuals who have a strong history of solitude or social isolation are at risk for video game and technology addiction as they are accustomed to being in and forming relationships in a virtual world. Dr. Alicia can treat process addictions and help you or a loved one overcome your addiction to technology or video games.

The Addiction Treatment Program Process

At Central Kentucky Addiction, Dr. Alicia utilizes a combination treatment plan that includes two aspects of treatment: counseling and medication-assisted treatment.

01 Counseling

Once a client is stabilized, sessions with Dr. Alicia will provide the client with a longer, quality session once a month versus your typical short counseling sessions multiple times a month. It's important to note that counseling is a state-mandated requirement for opioid addiction treatment. When it comes to treating addiction, counseling provides patients with the opportunity to adjust their attitudes and behaviors related to their addiction, create healthy patterns, and stay consistent with other forms of treatment. Central Kentucky Addiction Treatment only offers individual counseling, meaning patients will receive one-on-one care to identify destructive habits while learning coping skills and stress management to battle addiction.

02 Medication-Assisted Treatment

The second prong to Central Kentucky Addiction Treatment’s two-pronged approach to addiction treatment is medication-assisted treatment. This is an advanced way to treat addiction, often opioid addiction, that integrates certain FDA-approved medications into an individual’s treatment plan to help with cravings and withdrawal symptoms. These medicines are a useful tool to realign the parts of the brain affected by addiction without facing dangerous withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
